ANARCHY

If the Russian revolution is a product of the first world war, the Chinese revolution of 1945-49 is similarly the result of the second world war.

Joseph Proudhon, Frenchman wrote a seminal work “What is Peoperty” in 1840 that argued that property works as a bulwark against the state. In the late 19th century and early 20th century anarchism had struck roots in Spain, Cuba, Italy, Argentina, France and US and posed a threat to both the nationalists(who espoused national self determination),the reoublicans (those who opposed monarchy), Marxists alike.

The anarchists stood for all forms of oppression and at the same time was against status quo. The working class in most of these countries organized themselves to better their rights. Anarchists are also variously opposed to social role church plays in society and it promoted secularism instead.

The hawks and military strategists were always wary of what role the anarchists would play. The roritically the anarchists opposed war and led many anti-war protests during the first world war. At the turn of the 20th century Mikhail Bukunin and others refused to conflate nationalism with traditional form of government and promoted internationalist views of freedom. The anarchists
maintaining a distance from nationalists also did not rob them of their enduring national character of their movement.

Maoism: Is it another form of anarchism

In the Indian context the role of the left movement and its role in the freedom movement, by organizing the peadants and workers against colonial rule is well recorded. The CPI (M) was formed in 1964.As Marxists they fought for land rights the throught the 60s.At that point another movement was underway in Naxalbari fighting for land rights by capturing power in the long run. This was the first Maoist stirring in West Bengal.

The CPI (M-L) was formed in May 1969 and their ideology promoted the creation of ‘Liberated Zones’. In 2004 the CPI(M-L)Peoples’ War and Maoist Communist Centre combined in September 2004,to form CPI(Maoist).

Twenty-three security personnel were killed in an encounter with Maoists in the same area in April 2021. In 2023, nearly two dozen security personnel were killed by Maoists and almost the same number of Maoists were killed by the security forces. Three personnel of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), two of them commandos of the elite jungle warfare unit COBRA, were killed and 15 injured in an encounter with Maoists along the boundary of Sukma and Bijapur districts in the Bastar region of Chhattisgarh.

On 26 April 2023, a blast took place in th Indian state of Chhattisgarh’s Dantewad district. While they were returning from a anti-Maoist operation undertaken based intelligence inputs, a party of ten policemen and their driver who were members of the District Reserve Guard (DRG) of Chhattisgarh Police were killed a blast caused by an improvised explosive device (IED) detonated by Naxals. The incident happened in the Dantewada neighborhood
of the Aranpur police station. 16 April: 2024 Kanker clash: A major encounter took place between Maoist and security forces took place in Chhattisgarh’s Kanker district the Bastar region resulting in death of 29 Maoists and the injury of 3 security personnel.
